No. You open Online Store → Themes → Edit code → Sections, and paste one file in. Everything after that is a setting in the theme editor — colours, text, timers, thresholds.

Any Online Store 2.0 theme, which is Dawn, Horizon and essentially every theme sold since 2021. If your theme editor lets you add sections to a page, these work.

An app runs on someone else’s server and injects JavaScript into your storefront every page load, for a monthly fee, forever. These are files that live in your theme. Nothing loads from another domain and there is no renewal.

Install the section, check it does what you need, then cancel the app. Nothing breaks if you run both for a few days while you compare.

Yes, on any store you own or build for a client. That is where the bundle pays for itself — the same 33 files go on every store you touch. You cannot resell the files themselves as a product.

These are storefront sections, not a theme and not an app. They do not sync inventory, send email, process payments, or do anything server-side. If you need logic that runs outside the browser, you still need an app.

The opposite is the intent. Plain Liquid and CSS with a little vanilla JavaScript, no frameworks, no external requests. The Speed Kit exists specifically to claw back what apps cost you.
